Capacity

200 MW

Location

Kanbuak Village, in the Yebyu township

In November 2016, Myanmar UPA company limited (MUPA) planned to develop a 200MW combined Cycle power plant (CCPP). The CCPP will be located in Kanbuak Village, in the Yebyu township, Tanintharyi region. The 200MW development phase will bring benefits; such as, enough electric power required for the development of Dawei, more reliable system with less power shortage and possible positive impacts on the price of electricity.

Moreover, as a part of the approval process, MUPA will be undertaking an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) with the purpose of understanding the impact of the project on the environment and people living/working close to the project area, as well as to identify ways to manage changes that may occur through the development of the mitigation measures.

After the approval of EIA, the construction is expected to begin in late 2017, followed by the operation in the final quarter of 2020. Once the CCPP is operational, electricity will then be transmitted to the national grid via a 230kV transmission line which is expected to run from Maw La Myine to Dawei.
